The new year is upon us

We made it through the holidays. Thoughts of business put aside for family gatherings and the general insanity of kids out of school with not enough to do become refocused as we move into the first quarter of the new year.

Traditionally, this is the kickoff of hiring season. Companies have new budgets and are looking for the best way to spend money to make more money. This is where I come in. We are currently taking retainers to help these companies find the top talent and they are ready to hire. Disregard the gloom and doom that has filled the airwaves over the past two weeks, it's an election year and that consequently leads to gloomy news forcasting. What fun is it electing a new President if everything is rosey?

It is true that the housing sector is in the dumper and that those industries directly tied to it are feeling the hit. This might be that opportunity to try something else. The rest of the economy seems to be humming right along. Look for growth in defense related industries, Shipping, energy production and energy saving industries. In addition, the boomers are now moving into full blown retirement planning with the first wave already pulling the plug. This is your chance to move up. Educate yourself and get out there and look around. You might be surprised at what you find.

Our last three placements were outstanding candidates with more than 15 years experience. In each case they were not looking for a job when we contacted them, but soon discovered that sometimes the grass really is greener. Now is the season of opportunity and if you are remotely considering looking, I'd encourage everyone to do so.
